Finding the right hotel for a family staycation in Las Vegas can be challenging. You want a place that balances comfort, convenience, and kid-friendly activities without breaking the bank. In 2026, the Excalibur Hotel caught my attention as a potential option. After staying in one of their refurbished rooms, I discovered it offers a clean, simple, and affordable experience that could work well for families. Here’s a detailed review of what to expect when staying at Excalibur with kids.

The Room Experience

The room we stayed in was recently refurbished and noticeably clean. While the design was basic, it felt fresh and well-maintained. The natural light in the room was a big plus, making the space feel more open and inviting compared to other hotels on the Strip. The room cost $100 per night, which is almost double what we paid for a similar updated room at the Luxor. Despite the higher price, the Excalibur’s room was easier to access and had a brighter atmosphere.

Compared to a one-bedroom suite we stayed in at Excalibur a few years ago for $300, this refurbished room was a simpler option but still comfortable for a family. If you want a no-frills stay with clean accommodations, this room fits the bill.

Family-Friendly Amenities and Activities

Excalibur stands out for its kid-friendly atmosphere. One unique feature is the dungeon arcade located near the Tournament of Kings show. This arcade offers a fun, medieval-themed gaming experience that kids tend to enjoy. It’s a great way to keep children entertained without leaving the hotel.

The hotel also offers a variety of dining options suitable for families. The food court provides quick-service meals that are convenient for busy days. For sit-down dining, Buca di Beppo offers Italian dishes that appeal to both adults and kids. The hotel buffet is another highlight, with a wide selection of food that received positive feedback for quality and variety.

One restaurant to note is Dick's Last Resort. It has a playful atmosphere where the wait staff are intentionally rude and write funny insults on hats for guests. While this can be entertaining for adults, it is not suitable for children due to the nature of the humor.

Pool and Recreation

Unfortunately, the Excalibur pool was closed during our stay. However, the hotel arranged for guests to use the Mandalay Bay pool, which is widely regarded as one of the best pools in Las Vegas. This arrangement was a nice bonus, giving families access to a large, well-maintained pool area with plenty of space for kids to swim and play.

Location and Accessibility

Excalibur is located on the south end of the Las Vegas Strip. This location offers easy access to several popular attractions within walking distance. For example, the New York New York rollercoaster, the M&M factory, and the Coca Cola factory are all nearby. This makes it convenient for families to explore without needing to drive or take taxis.

The hotel also connects directly to the Luxor, which is a more budget-friendly option. Since the Luxor rooms are almost half the price and also newly updated, families might consider staying there and visiting Excalibur for dining and entertainment.

Value for Families

If you are looking for a hotel that offers a balance of cleanliness, kid-friendly activities, and convenient location, Excalibur is a solid choice. The refurbished rooms provide a comfortable stay without unnecessary luxury, and the hotel’s amenities cater well to families. The price point is higher than some nearby options like Luxor, but the added natural light and ease of access may justify the cost for some.

The availability of the Mandalay Bay pool during the Excalibur pool closure was a pleasant surprise and added value to the stay. The variety of dining options also means families can find meals that suit different tastes and budgets.

Final Thoughts

For families planning a staycation in Las Vegas, the Excalibur Hotel offers a clean, simple, and family-friendly environment. The refurbished rooms provide a fresh and bright space, and the hotel’s location makes it easy to explore nearby attractions. While the price is higher than some alternatives, the overall experience and amenities make it a worthwhile option for those traveling with kids.

If budget is a top concern, consider the Luxor as an alternative since it connects to Excalibur and offers similar updates at a lower price. Either way, both hotels provide a convenient base for a family-friendly Las Vegas stay.
